The G train won’t run between Bedford-Nostrand Avenues in Brooklyn and Court Square in Queens on some weeknights and weekends in July and August, the MTA said Friday.
Service will be suspended between the stops in Bedford-Stuyvesant and Long Island City at the following times, according to the transit agency:
Overnight between 9:45 p.m. and 5 a.m. from:
- Monday, July 14 to Friday, July 18
- Thursday, July 24 to Friday, July 25
- Monday, August 4 to Friday, August 8
- Monday, August 11 to Friday, August 15
Between 9:45 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday from:
- Friday, July 25 to Monday, July 28
- Friday, August 1 to Monday, August 4
- Friday, August 8 to Monday, August 11
- Friday, August 15 to Monday, August 18
Workers will be carrying out signal modernization along the line during those times, the MTA said. “The G train’s signal system dates back to the 1930s and is now being modernized with state-of-the-art Communications-based Train Control (CBTC), which will bring more reliable service to the 160,000 riders who take the G every day,” the agency said.
“The nearly century-old signals needing replacement on the G line have been a frequent source of service disruptions and delays,” it added.
Free shuttle buses will run between Bedford-Nostrand Avenues and Court Square whenever G train service is suspended along the stretch.
The buses will run every three to four minutes during weeknight shutdowns; every five to eight minutes during morning and evening weekend shutdowns; and every 10 minutes during overnight weekend shutdowns, according to the MTA.
G trains will still run between Church Avenue and Bedford-Nostrand Avenues.
The MTA said work on the signal modernization project will continue into 2027.
When the $368 million project wraps up, the G train will join the L and 7 trains as the third subway line fully converted to CBTC, the agency said.
