Bishop Museum and the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement have embarked on a new partnership to refresh the museum’s gift shop, Shop Pacifica, with a new name and showcase Hawaii-made and designed products as of July 1.

“This partnership is a natural extension of our mission to celebrate and perpetuate the rich history and culture of Hawaii and the Pacific,” said Bishop Museum President and CEO Dee Jay Mailer in a news release. “CNHA’s deep community ties and commitment to Native Hawaiian businesses make them an ideal partner in strengthening how the museum reflects and uplifts our community.”

CNHA’s retail experience includes The Mākeke (formerly Pop-up Mākeke); a recent acquisition of the long-standing cultural retail institution, Nā Mea Hawaiʻi; as well as its KūHana Business Accelerator Program that helps local entrepreneurs to grow their business, many of which are retail companies.

Under CNHA leadership, the store will remain a place to purchase gift items, as well as a space for cultural exchange and community engagement. Future plans include product showcases, creative workshops and events reflecting the museum’s role as a gathering place for learning and connection.

“At its best, retail is a platform for cultural connection and storytelling,” said CNHA CEO Kūhiō Lewis. “We’re honored to reimagine this space to highlight our local makers and create authentic experiences for both residents and visitors.”
