NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. – The highly anticipated expansion of the Storm King Art Center in New Windsor is complete. The project was made possible through Gov. Kathy Hochul's $53 million state investment into arts and culture.
Hannah des Cognets, director of learning and engagement at Storm King Art Center, said staff at the indoor/outdoor museum are welcoming visitors to see the latest upgrades like the welcoming pavilions and accessible parking lots.
"It's a great place to come by yourself or come with family and kind of choose your own path," des Cognets said. "Every day, [we also] have a guided walking tour that you can just walk into and then we have special tours throughout the season."
Visitors interested in exploring the 500-acre sculpture park can also participate in outdoor activities like renting bikes or riding the tram.
Executive Director Nora Lawrence said the experience at Storm King Art Center is second to none.
"We at Storm King Art Center are so proud that there's really no other place like us in the world," Lawrence said. "The idea that people in the Hudson Valley, in Orange County, New Jersey, Westchester, New York City have us pretty much at their fingertips is pretty much unusual... We are best known for our large-scale installations and commissions of sculptures from some of the leading artists of our time."
Artists Sonia Gomes, Kevin Beasley and Dionne Lee have some of their sculptures on display. Exhibits at Storm King Art Center are open through November.
