Many county offices and services will be closed to observe the state holiday, Good Friday, on April 18. The Christian holiday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus and always falls on the Friday before Easter Sunday. 

Here is a roundup of what's opened and closed across the state.

State of Hawaii

  • All public libraries will be closed on April 18, 2025. The Kaimukī, Kāneʻohe, and Pearl City branches that are usually open on Sundays will be closed for Easter on April 20.

  • The Hawaii State Archives at 364 S. King Street will be closed.

  • UHM Galleries and the John Young Museum of Art will be closed on Friday, April 18, and Sunday, April 20 in observance of Good Friday and Easter Sunday holidays.

City and County of Honolulu

  • TheBus will operate on a city holiday schedule. For schedule information, visit thebus.org.

  • The Skyline will operate on a regular weekday schedule from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. For rider information, visit honolulu.gov/skyline.

  • Trash will be collected. Transfer stations, convenience centers, H-POWER and the Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill will all be open.

  • Parks and botanical gardens will be open.

  • Municipal golf courses will be open. Visit honolulu.gov/des/golf for revised play information.

  • The Honolulu Zoo will be open.

  • The Neal S. Blaisdell Center box office will be closed.

  • People’s Open Markets will not be held.

  • All satellite city halls and driver licensing centers will be closed.

  • Parking will be restricted in Lanikai over the three-day holiday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • On-street parking will be free, except for the meters on Kalakaua Avenue along Queen Kapiolani Park, metered parking lots and meters on specific Waikiki streets. View the list of Waikiki streets here.

  • Traffic will not be coned for contraflow.

Kauai County

  • County of Kauai offices will be closed.

  • All neighborhood centers will be closed.

  • The Waimea and Kapaa swimming pools will be closed.

  • Refuse transfer stations and the Kekaha landfill will be closed. All refuse transfer stations and the landfill will resume operations on Saturday and Easter Sunday.

  • Kapa'a baseyard refuse collection will be closed.  

  • Reynold’s Recycling, the Lihue HI5 Redemption Center, and the HI5 Kōloa Redemption Center will be closed.

  • The Puhi Metals Recycling Center will be closed. 

  • Kauai Community Recycling Services in Kīlauea and Kapa‘a will remain open.

  • Residential trash pickup schedules will not change for the holiday.

  • The Kauai Bus will be operating on its current daily schedule.

Maui County

  • All County of Maui offices will be closed.

  • All County of Maui pools will be closed.

  • The Central Maui Landfill and EKO Compost Greenwaste will be open from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., while the Olowalu Recycling & Refuse Convenience Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m

  • The Hana Landfill, Lanai Landfill and Molokai Landfill will all be closed.

  • The Recovery Permit Center at the County of Maui Service Center in Kahului will be closed.

  • The Lahaina Resource Center at Lahaina Gateway will be closed.

  • Residential trash pickup schedules will not change for the holiday.

  • The Maui Bus will be operating on its current daily schedule.

Hawaii County

  • County of Hawaii offices will be closed.
