Street vendors and advocates rallied Tuesday, calling on the city to issue more licenses for food and general street vendors.
Several City Council members have proposed legislation that would raise the number of applications issued per year.
But Mayor Eric Adams has pushed back, citing vendors overcrowding the Brooklyn Bridge and their subsequent ban last year as the reason for caution on issuing more licenses.
City Council Majority Leader Amanda Farías, whose district in the Bronx covers the neighborhoods of Castle Hill, Parkchester and Unionport, and Mohamed Attia, the managing director of the Street Vendor Project, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Wednesday to discuss more.
Farías is also the chair of the committee on economic development. Attia has also worked as a street vendor for nearly 10 years.
