The forecast calls for little accumulation, but city officials say roads could be pre-treated as early as Monday night in anticipation of snow.

The New York City Department of Sanitation issued an advisory alerting New Yorkers of salt spreading plans and parking rule changes ahead of a busy travel day.

According to NY1 meteorologists, the city could see a dusting to a half of an inch of snow.

The department said alternate side parking will be suspended Tuesday. New Yorkers who plan to drive are encouraged to drive “slowly and safely.”

According to a DSNY release, the advisory is the department’s “lower level” snow-fighting notification.

DSNY advised property owners to clear any snow and ice on their properties. If snow stops falling between:

7 a.m. and 5 p.m., property owners must clear sidewalks within four hours

5 and 9 p.m., property owners must clear sidewalks within 14 hours

9 p.m. and 7 a.m., property owners must clear sidewalks by 11 a.m.

There will be a fine for failure to clear sidewalks: $100 for the first offense, $150 for the second offense and $250 for the third offense, according to the release.

New Yorkers can expect a deep freeze Monday night, with the coldest air in two years.

The last time the five boroughs saw a white Christmas was 2009.
