The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has shifted the northbound traffic into Tampa over to the old southbound span. The change greeted drivers Wednesday morning.

That span, which was built in the 90s, had been vacant since the new southbound bridge opened in March. Crews have been fixing it up.

FDOT is asking drivers to use caution when using the new lanes on Wednesday. This changeover is part of the larger Howard Frankland project.

The original bridge and current northbound span into Tampa was built in the 1960s.

It will be demolished in the next few months by 2026.
