  • The four people infected came in contact with a group from the original outbreak in Woodford and Fayette County

LFCHD said in a release there are eight confirmed measles cases connected to the outbreak in Woodford and Fayette counties. There are four new cases in Fayette County. All came in contact with the first Fayette County case. These people have been in quarantine since the initial case was reported. The LFCHD says there is little risk to the public from these cases.

This year, Kentucky has reported 11 measles cases.

The health department, in collaboration with Kentucky’s Department of Public Health, is investigating cases, enforcing quarantine protocols, and contacting potential exposures.

LFCHD wants everyone to verify their vaccination status to make sure they are protected. The measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine is a safe way to prevent the infection. Adults born after 1957 should have had at least one dose of MMR vaccine. Children should get two doses, the first at 12-15 months and the second between the ages of 4-6.
