CHARLESTON, S.C. - The South Carolina Shrimpers Association (SCSA) has identified about half of the 40 Charleston restaurants it is suing over allegedly misleading customers about where their shrimp is harvested.

The group initially kept all the businesses unidentified in its lawsuit.

In the amended lawsuit, SCSA revealed some of the restaurants it is suing which include:

On behalf of the SCSA, SeaD Consulting released a report last month which found that roughly 90% of the restaurants tested were allegedly serving imported shrimp, despite advertising that it was locally sourced.

Only four of the 44 restaurants were serving genuine domestic wild-caught shrimp, per the report. The other 40 were misleading their customers, with the report claiming 25 of the businesses’ advertising rose to the level of being “outright fraudulent.”
