OHIO — The Buckeye State has been under a heat wave since Sunday, and it's showing on some roadways.

Roads across the state are starting to buckle under the intense heat, creating crators or heaves in the pavement.
Ohio Department of Transportation Press Secretary Matt Bruning said this is extremely likely, especially when the heat just won't let up.
“When we have prolonged period of heat, like this — we’ve had several back-to-back-to-back days with temperatures in the mid to upper 90s with a heat index above 100, you know, everything is going to expand as far as it can. When it runs out of room to expand, that’s when we see these pavement heaves," Bruning said.
The heaves happen quickly, and Bruning urges drivers to slow down and watch out for them. Drivers can report road issues to the Ohio Department of Transportation or their city.
The heat wave continues for Ohio through Friday, with many areas hitting heat index values in the triple digits. The extreme heat began Sunday, and it hasn’t really let up since except in northern parts of the state.
The combination of intense heat and humidity could cause pop-up storms to end the week. For the latest information, click here.
