AUSTIN, Texas — A world-renowned art installation has floated its way to Austin, Texas, for a colorful five-month run.
Balloon Museum is calling the Louis Shanks Furniture building on West Anderson Lane home from June 21 to Nov. 2 with its “Let's Fly” exhibition. It features luminous displays, inflatable sculptures and immersive video projections that focus on the use of air as an artistic medium.
One of the exhibition’s standout pieces is “Mariposa,” a 26-foot butterfly sculpture adorned with 39,000 LED lights. Interaction with the larger-than-life artworks is emphasized, so guests are invited to swing beneath the artwork, activating light sequences in sync with a curated soundtrack.
Austin is one of just four locations in the world chosen as a site for a Balloon Museum installation. The other three, “Pop Air,” “Emotionair” and “Euphoria” are on display in Singapore, San Francisco and Paris.
“Known for its eclectic and creative energy, Austin offers the perfect setting for this exhibition, which adds a refreshing new perspective to the city’s cultural landscape,” the museum’s website reads.
“Let's Fly” will be open Monday through Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m.; Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Tickets start at $50 for adults, $47 for youth 13-17 years old and $38 for children 4-12 years old. Bundle packages are also available.
