TUSCARAWAS COUNTY, Ohio– Children often have big aspirations. They dream of being an astronaut, doctor, athlete, musician, or president. David Warther III, however, dreamt of doing something much, much smaller.
Tucked away in Sugarcreek, this naval enthusiast, self-proclaimed history buff, and 5th generation carver has devoted a lifetime to creating intricate maritime masterpieces. Each meticulously crafted hull, oar, mast, and tiny strand of rope is made from antique ivory or ebony wood and stands as a testament to decades of unwavering dedication. Every miniature detail points towards a much broader focus as David works to portray his project, “The History of the Ship.”
To David, his life’s work is more than a passion project. It’s his calling, one he hopes to continue to fulfill for years to come. The fruits of his awe-inspiring talents are on display at the non-profit David Warther Carvings Museum.
