BROOKLYN, N.Y. - A Brooklyn street is back open to traffic after a massive sinkhole appeared Thursday.

Pictures show just how close a car came to being swallowed by the hole.

Officials say the ground suddenly gave way on Decatur Avenue and Evergreen Street in Bushwick.It measured about 8 by 16 feet, and was 12 feet deep.

Officials tell NY1 the hole was caused by a broken 30 inch sewer line. 

Water and sewer services were not affected in the area.
