ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Millions of packages are on the move through the United States postal system, and Rochester is doing its share.
The Northwest Rochester Processing and Distribution Center is expected to handle about 9.6 million packages this holiday season. Its two Automated Package Processing Systems is doing most of the heavy lifting for the 450 employees there.
“So any mail that starts here, in our area, our surrounding area, which would be Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, Utica, Watertown; we process that mail and send it out to the world," said Taneka Lawson, NW Rochester P&DC. "Then we also have incoming mail from Chicago, Detroit, Cap Metro, Charlotte, all kinds of places.”
Nationwide the postal system is expected to process about 850 million pieces of mail for the holidays.
