Endorsements from local newspapers are a longstanding tradition in city elections, but last year the New York Times announced it would no longer endorse in New York races.

Last week — in lieu of a traditional endorsement — the Times unveiled a project called “The Choice.” A panel of 15 New Yorkers assessed the top nine Democratic candidates running for mayor across a number of issues.

Howard Wolfson, one of those panelists, leads the education program at Bloomberg Philanthropies and formerly served as a deputy mayor under Bloomberg.

He joined “Inside City Hall” Tuesday to discuss the state of the mayor’s race.
