KENTUCKY — The Commonwealth of Kentucky is once again on full display for the 151st running of the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby coming up later this week.

This year marks the 151st running of the Kentucky Derby, the longest continually held sporting event in the country.

According to the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, the Run for the Roses has an overall economic impact estimated at $400 million, but the economic impact of equine in Kentucky goes beyond the Derby finish line. Kentucky’s equine industry combines to generate $6.5 billion in annual cumulative direct and indirect economic activity and a total of 60,494 jobs.

Kentucky House Speaker David Osborne, R-Prospect, joined this "In Focus Kentucky" segment to highlight Kentucky's thoroughbred and equine industry and shared more on how significant of an economic impact the industry has on the state and region.
