1. Columbus mayor asks DOJ to investigate police department to identify racial disparities, solutions for reform

Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther sent a letter Wednesday to the Department of Justice asking for an investigation into the city’s police department following a spate of police killings of Black people. Ginther said that while the city is committed to reform and has already established a number of “significant” changes in the past few years, it is not enough.

2. Officer to plead not guilty to new charge in Andre Hill case

The fired Ohio police officer accused of killing Andre Hill plans to plead not guilty Wednesday to an additional criminal charge.  Former Columbus police Officer Adam Coy is set to be arraigned after a grand jury on Friday added a criminal charge of reckless homicide against him for the fatal December shooting of Hill, a 47-year-old Black man. Coy, who is white, was indicted in February on murder, felonious assault and dereliction of duty charges in the death of Hill. 

3. Economic impact of the pandemic: Comparing NFL Drafts

The economic boost many businesses in Cleveland have been begging for is finally here: The 2021 NFL Draft. The 2021 NFL Draft isn’t expected to be comparable revenue wise to the previous NFL Drafts. Previous drafts have brought in around $100 million or more.

4. President Biden will deliver his first address to Congress; Here’s what you need to know

Special coverage of President Joe Biden’s address to a joint session of Congress begins at 8:45 p.m. ET on your local Spectrum News station and on the Spectrum News app. The president is likely to tout his newly unveiled $1.8 trillion American Families Plan as well as his $2 trillion infrastructure proposal, the American Jobs Plan.

5. CDC: Fully vaccinated adults 65+ are 94% less likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19

Fully vaccinated adults 65 and older are 94% less likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The new study, published in the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), showed that the risk of hospitalization dropped significantly two weeks after receiving the second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines.
