ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Patrons of new creations unisex shop were able to get a haircut and a vaccination Monday.

Monroe County has partnered with barber shops and beauty salons to distribute COVID-19 vaccines in the community.

New Creations owner Willie Lightfoot went through training with the University of Maryland to learn how to conduct fact-based conversations with his clients and is able to connect his customers with resources to combat COVID-19.

"This is a very important vaccination opportunity and educational opportunity for this surrounding community,” Lightfoot said. “And most importantly, what we're doing today is we're selling information and education not necessarily vaccination. We want people to make informed decision around being vaccinated and protecting themselves, their community and their circle.

The Shots at the Shop initiative is part of a country-wide program organized by the National Association of County and City Health Officials.
