Queens Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani claimed victory in the Democratic primary for mayor after delivering an upset to former Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Mamdani had a strong night across the city, with his strongest performance in Brooklyn. Less than five months ago, he polled at just 1% of first choice votes.
An Emerson College poll released on Monday showed Mamdani beating Cuomo in the eighth round of ranked-choice voting 52% to 48%, the first poll released that showed him ahead of the former governor.
Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, joined “The Rush Hour” on Wednesday to discuss last week’s Marist poll, which showed Cuomo defeating Mamdani after seven rounds.
