The Monroe County District Attorney's Office says it has filed a petition against Irondequoit Town Supervisor Andrae Evans.
The petition was filed with the State of New York Appellate Division for a judgment to remove Evans from his position, according to the DA's office. It comes after an investigation into sexual harassment allegations.
The Irondequoit Town Board and police department referred the case to the DA's office for potential criminal charges, however, the office found the petition to be more appropriate.
Evans was censured by the board after a report surfaced accusing him of sexually harassing an employee and retaliating against them until they resigned. Evans has since sued the board. In the lawsuit, Evans claims the board acted unlawfully and outside its authority. He is seeking a temporary restraining order to pause the resolution until a hearing is scheduled.
He is being challenged in a Democratic primary in June by town councilman John Perticone.
Spectrum News 1 has reached out to Supervisor Evans for comment on the ongoing situation and is awaiting a response.
