Onondaga County voters overwhelmingly said yes to a proposition that hands over control of the Jamesville Correctional Facility to the county sheriff's office.

Sheriff Gene Conway already oversees the county justice center, and he says, having both facilities under control of one administrator would make operations more efficient, especially when it comes to overcrowding.

"One of the reasons behind this being a proposition is the fact that I have determined that it would help offset the possibility of increased cost going forward and what I mean by that is that hopefully we will not have to board our inmates off to another county because we are too full," said Conway.

The measure passed with 64.5 percent of the vote.
