Supporters said Clifton Mosque Imam Ayman Soliman arrived at the ICE office in Blue Ash around 9 a.m. Thursday for a routine check-in.

After more than three hours of questioning, his attorneys were notified that he would be taken into custody.

"We spoke at length today with ICE officials – making the case for why Ayman deserves to remain in our community," Landsman wrote in an update on Facebook. "We have been working on Ayman’s case for months – well before this became public. We expect this to be a long process that he and his attorneys will be navigating."

Landsman added that they've been working hand-in-hand with Soliman's legal team through every step of the way. Soliman can stay in Ohio for the time being, prior to his next appearances before the immigration court, Landsman said.

Landsman said he couldn't give more details but that he is going to continue to push for due process and that they are "doing everything we can to keep him here at home."

Soliman, originally from Egypt, had been granted asylum for more than a decade, according to supporters. They said his status was recently revoked without explanation.

He first came to Cincinnati for a position as a chaplain at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

He later served on the board at Clifton Mosque and volunteered with several interfaith groups across the city.
