LEXINGTON, Ky. — Newsweek has named America’s Best Cancer Care Hospitals and three Kentucky hospitals made the list. The highest ranked of Kentucky’s institutions was the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital at 43.

Newsweek’s top 50 cancer centers list includes the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center, which excels in lung and breast cancer care and is affiliated with UK Chandler Hospital.

Since 2013 Markey has been a National Cancer Institute designated cancer center and according to the hospital, it is one of only 57 cancer centers in the county to earn the NCI’s Comprehensive Cancer Center designation. The designation give patients access to treatment and clinical trials only offered at NCI centers.

Newsweek partnered with Statista, a research firm, to recognize hospitals it says “go above and beyond when ti comes to providing excellent care for their patients”

The other Kentucky hospitals making the Newsweek list are Baptist Health Lexington at 145 and St. Elizabeth Edgewood Hospital at 165. The magazine ranked 200 hospitals.

Last year, U.S. News & World Report ranked Markey No. 36 for cancer care. It was the eighth consecutive year the center was ranked in the U.S. News Top 50.

According to the American Cancer Society, this year over 2 million people in the United States are expected to be diagnosed with some some form of cancer. Newsweek reports frm 2013 to 2022, the overall death rate from cancer dropped approximately 1.7% per year and continues to decline.
