Charleston, S.C. — Volvo Cars announced they will be laying off a few of its workers and making production changes at its Ridgeville plant in Berkeley County.

According to a Volvo Cars spokesperson, “This is part of our announced shift to regionalization and in response to challenging macro conditions. Our aim is to support impacted employees, protect as many jobs as possible and secure Volvo Cars’ long-term future in the U.S., balancing our investments with the need to reduce costs and improve efficiency.”

Volvo Cars launched its first U.S. plant in Ridgeville, S.C. in 2018 and currently employs over 2,000 people at this location.

"Volvo Cars remains committed to creating 4,000 jobs in South Carolina and aims to add and refill open positions as we evolve our production plans in line with the changing environment." said the Volvo Car's spokesperson.
