SOUTH CAROLINA - Five counties in South Carolina will see new sales and use taxes go into effect May 1, 2025.

While South Carolina's statewide sales tax is set for six percent, if voters approve an increase, individual counties can impose an additional one percent tax.

Here is a list of the counties and the specifics of their changes.

  • Georgetown County is adding a new Capital Projects Tax. As a result, the Sales Tax rate will increase​ to 7%.
  • ​Horry County is adding a new Transportation Tax, but its Capital Projects Tax is expiring. As a result, its Sales Tax rate remains 8%.
  • Jasper County is adding a new Transportation Tax. As a result, the Sales Tax rate will increase to 9%.
  • Sumter County is adding a new Capital Projects Tax. As a result, the county’s Sales Tax rate will increase to 8%.
  • Williamsburg County’s Capital Projects Tax is expiring. As a result, the county’s Sales Tax rate will decrease to 7%

In addition to the changes above, Aiken county's one percent Education Capital Improvement Tax, which expired on February 28, was reimposed on March 1.
