The Honolulu Medical Examiner released a statement Tuesday saying crime boss Mike Miske Jr. died from “toxicity of fentanyl and para-fluorofentanyl.”

“This case is still under investigation, and the manner of death is officially still listed as pending. However, based on currently available information, the manner of death in this case appears to be accidental,” the Medical Examiner’s statement said.

Miske, 50, was found dead on Dec. 1, 2024, in his cell at the Federal Detention Center in Honolulu. He had been in federal custody since his arrest on July 15, 2020.

In July, Miske was convicted of 13 federal counts, including racketeering conspiracy, murder in aid of racketeering, and kidnapping resulting in death. He was set to be sentenced on Jan. 30 and faced mandatory minimum life sentences on two of the charges.

The Medical Examiner said the completed autopsy report was expected to be completed in about 30 days.
