ST. LOUIS—Shriners Children’s St. Louis is celebrating 100 years by honoring a 98-year-old former patient.

Edna was 14-years-old when she received care at the hospital in 1941. She was born without a femur bone, and her foot and lower leg were attached to her hip, according to Shriners.

“Well if it wasn't for Shriners Children’s St. Louis, I wouldn't be getting around as well as I do now,” said Edna in a press release. “

She now lives in Jefferson City and adds that without the care, she would have missed out on a lot of things.

“I wanted to be like other people. I had a brace and foot in a stirrup to help me get around before being a Shriners Children’s patient and it was not easy to use. Once I had my amputation, it opened up a bunch of doors,” Edna recalled.

She added she met her husband on a dance floor, and they had three children together.

Edna is just one of the countless patients who has benefited from Shriners Children’s over the decades.

A Saturday celebration called Amazing Care Family Affair will brought together former patients like Edna.
