NORTH BROOKFIELD, Mass. - Second Chance Animal Services has now picked up 68 cats, after a local man surrendered the animals.

The man contacted Second Chance to notify them he was leaving his home and needed to make arrangements for the cats he had taken in through the years.

Each cat has since been given an exam, been spayed and neutered and given up to date vaccinations.

According to Second Chance's Facebook page, five of the cats are pregnant, others have serious eye or dental issues, and some need surgery before they can be adopted.

Six of the kittens have respiratory infections and will need to recover. The estimated cost for all the care is expected to exceed $30,000.

Once the cats and kittens are all medically cleared they will be available for adoption at a Second Chance center in East Brookfield. The staff tells us some cats will need to be adopted in pairs.
