CHARLOTTE -- A professor at UNC Charlotte's School of Social Work is charged with sex crimes against children.
According to jail records, Robert Herman Smith was arrested just before midnight, Thursday, on three charges of second degree sexual exploitation of a minor and three third degree charges.
The university released a statement saying, "UNC Charlotte has just been made aware of the arrest and is currently reviewing the charges. In the meantime, Robert Herman-Smith is being immediately suspended from the University.”
We are told the FBI may be involved in the investigation.
