While the race for mayor continues, there are several other high-profile races we’re keeping a close eye on before Primary Day.

NY1 will be hosting a debate on Tuesday between the leading contenders for city comptroller.

Brooklyn Councilman Justin Brannan will square off against Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine.

But before the debate, we thought it would be helpful to get some insight into the role of city comptroller, and what the office does.

The city comptroller oversees a staff of about 800 people to check and review the spending of city agencies. It is the city’s chief fiscal office, watching over the city’ budget, pensions, investments, and credit.

Former City Comptroller Bill Thompson joined “News All Day” on Monday to discuss the role, his time in the position, and the election.
