TOLEDO — Residents looking to get involved in cleanup events across the city won’t have to wait long.
The city is offering its annual recycling events, organizing neighborhood cleanups and free disposal days for people to take advantage of as warmer weather moves in.
Clean Toledo Recycling Events are held annually through the joint efforts of the City of Toledo’s Divisions of Environmental Services and Urban Beautification, Keep Toledo Lucas County Beautiful and Ohio EPA alongside several vendors.
Events kick off with “Party for the Planet” at the Toledo Zoo at 2 Hippo Way from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 26.
Residents can bring a multitude of items to be recycled, including:
Tires: Up to 10 tires on or off the rim (no commercial tires) at a cost of $0.50 each
Bulky items and refuse: Air conditioning units, refrigerators/freezers, and large appliances
Cardboard, phone books and newspapers
Document shredding and recycling
Electronic waste: TVs and CRT monitors
Household hazardous waste
Paint and stains: Oil-based paints, stains and latex paint
Packing styrofoam: No plates, cups or other food-grade containers
Residential yard waste: Sticks, branches, leaves and grass clippings
Scrap metal
Clothing and household goods
Medical equipment: Accepted on April 26th and October 4th
Toledo is also bringing it Block-by-Block Neighborhood Cleanups back for its second year. The division of Urban Beautification will go through neighborhoods to collect trash and debris. Residents can place furniture, mattresses, TVs, computers, scrap wood and yard waste on their curbs to be collected on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Polish Village: May 17
Starr/Raymer: June 14
Willys: July 19
Southwyck: Aug. 16
Old South End: Oct. 11
Residents within the cleanup areas will see street signs ahead of the selected date, but to check locations, click here.
The crews will not be equipped to handle hazardous material and the following items are prohibited from being set out:
Aerosols
Cleaning chemicals
Batteries
Oils (cooking and motor)
Paints, stains and paint thinners
Fluorescent bulbs
Gasoline, propane or other flammables
Fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides
Tires
Toledo is also allowing resident to bring a truck or trailer load of bulky solid waste items, such as excess trash, furniture, carpeting, mattresses, wood waste and scrap metal, four separate times this year for free disposal.
Items should be brought to the Hoffman Road Landfill, 3962 Hoffman Road
