AKRON, Ohio — Summit County Animal Control is looking to clear the shelter this month by offering a "Clear the Shelter" kick-off party at the start of next month.

This August marks the 11-year anniversry of the national adoption initiative which has helped home more than 1 million animals across the country. August also marks 15-years for Summit County Animal Control to be at its current location, 250 Opportunity Parkway.
The shelter is hosting a special party on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025 from noon to 2 p.m. where visitors can pick up a sweet treat for themselves and their pet, meet adoptable dogs and show support for adopt-don't shop.
Dog adoption fees will be reduced form $96 to $28 and all animals are microchipped, fully vetted and ready to be taken home with their county dog license.
Last month the shelter saw 28 animals get adopted out, including 10 dogs, 13 cats, three kittens and two others.
